Aug 3rd, 2010 Michael Angarano Cast in Kevin Smith’s “Red State”

Though Michael didn’t land the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man (it went to Andrew Garfield instead), he is keeping busy! He has been cast in Kevin Smith’s political horror film “Red State”, along with Melissa Leo, Kyle Gallner and Dermot Mulroney.

Kevin Smith’s ‘Red State’ Lands a Supporting Cast

Dermot Mulroney, Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano and Steven Root are in talks to co-star in Kevin Smith’s political horror film “Red State,” and Oscar nominated actress Melissa Leo is also circling the project, an individual familiar with the casting process has told TheWrap.

The movie stars Michael Parks (“Grindhouse”) and is loosely based on Reverend Fred Phelps of the hateful Westboro Baptist Church.

Smith hasn’t finished the script yet (the last we heard, he was on page 81), but the director has said that he plans to cast “recognizable unknowns” in some of the script’s more prominent parts, as this group of actors will likely appear in smaller supporting roles.

Earlier today, Smith tweeted that production will begin on Sept. 22.

Jun 26th, 2010 Spider-man Screen Test Finalist?

Michael is listed at Deadline Hollywood as a possible candidate for the upcoming Spider-man reboot. Pretty exciting and we’ll keep you posted on any developments to it!

I’m told that nobody has won the job yet. It is possible that more candidates will be added. But there is a strong list of actors who screen tested, and most likely the new Peter Parker is among them. I’m told that the candidates whose screen tests were viewed Friday are: Jamie Bell (the Billy Elliot star who wrapped the Kevin Macdonald-directed The Eagle of the Ninth) , Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin, Kick-Ass’s Aaron Johnson, Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) and Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro). Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) and Michael Angarano (Lords of Dogtown) are also in the final list that the studio is working from. I’m not sure if Angarano tested. I’ve heard Dillane decided not to because he is likely headed to attend drama school at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Jun 11th, 2010 “Knockout” Retitled “Haywire”; Possible January 2011 Release

Michael’s highly anticipated action movie “Knockout” has apparently been renamed “Haywire” and may have a tentative January 2011 release, according to tweets collected by The Playlist:

When we first reported about Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller, “Knockout” starring mixed martial arts champion Gina Carano, we did say the title of the film was a working one and would probably change, did we not?

And change it has. According to tweets by Jules Asner, Soderbergh’s wife, and other tweets and message board reports at a recent screening, the film is now titled, “Haywire” and has been set for a January 2011 release.

The film has an incredible supporting cast including Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Hunger”), Channing Tatum, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton (who made a last minute sub-in for Dennis Quaid who had to drop out), Michael Angarano, French actor and director Mathieu Kassovitz (“Amelie,” Spielberg’s “Munich”).

The film centers on a black ops soldier (Carano) who seeks revenge after she is betrayed and set up during a mission. We read the Lem Dobbs-penned script earlier this year and it is no frills, taut and lean to the bone at just over 90 pages; a riveting and sharp read.

If the picture is screening, has a title and is scheduled, it sounds like it’s basically done and awaiting its release by Lionsgate. The action thriller was shot all over the world including Barcelona, New Mexico and Dublin.
